About our Pastor
Fr. Edward J. Neroda was born in Campbell, Ohio, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Neroda. He attended Campbell Memorial High School. He attended Youngstown State University, St. Mary College, and Mt. St. Mary of the West Seminary. He celebrated his first Mass at his home parish of the St. John the Baptist in Campbell on May 26, 1957. He graduated from the Diocesan Limex program through Loyola University in 1996 with a Master’s Degree.
Fr. Neroda was first assigned to Immaculate Conception Parish in Youngstown, Ohio, followed by St. Stanislaus, St. Louis (Louisville), St. John the Baptist (Canton), St. Peter (Canton), and St. Mary (Newton Falls) as Pastor. In July 1980, he became Pastor at Fr. St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish. Since coming to the Parish, Fr. Neroda was responsible for renovating the church, establishing a senior citizens group and helping to start the Pierogi makers organization.
Fr. Neroda has also served in many other areas of the Diocese of Youngstown. Besides teaching at Cardinal Mooney, Ursuline and the Aquinas High Schools, he served as Chaplain of Knights of Columbus in Louisville and Newton Falls, Catholic Businessmen’s Association, and the Department of Ohio Catholic War Veterans as well as St. Stanislaus Post 1222 of the Catholic War Veterans. He also served as Diocesan Director of Refugee Resettlement and was on the Clergy Conference Committee. Presently, Fr. Neroda is the Head Chaplin with the Youngstown Police Department.
In May 2007, Father celebrated the 50th anniversary of his ordination.
About our Deacon
Deacon Michael Schlais grew up in Hubbard, Ohio, and he graduated from Hubbard High School in 1966. In June 1970, he received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Youngstown State University in Youngstown, Ohio. In August of the same year, he began a thirty-year career as an English teacher in the East Liverpool City School system. He received a Masters in Education in 1975 from Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania. Deacon Mike retired from the East Liverpool City School system in July of 2000. He currently teaches part-time as an English instructor at Cardinal Mooney High School.
In August 1974, he married Marsha Rudnicki at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church. Marsha and Mike have two grown children Melissa and Mike who were also married at St. Stan's. They also now have two grandchildren. On November 18, 1995, he was ordained a permanent deacon of the Youngstown Diocese under the sponsorship of Father Edward Neroda.
